The banana and nut butter combo is my go-to base for a protein smoothie.
I have added in vanilla protein powder for extra bulk. I use Arbonne’s protein powder and I have to say although it is quite pricey it lasts forever and it is delicious.
Can there be such a thing as delicious protein powder? Yes, and I found it.
I have tried many a vegan protein powder and non vegan protein powder over the years and I have yet to find one as tasty as this. My husband and I are flying through the pack.
He uses it as a simple shake with just water, I add it to smoothies and to protein balls of late.
You don’t need to use the protein powder if you don’t want to.
Or, if you have chocolate flavour it could equally work in this recipe.
As I have said before on here about smoothies, you have to be careful as the sugar content can be high when you are adding so much fruit to one solo drink.
So be clever in your decisions. Slim the drink down
to simply banana, milk and nut butter with a date in there or a 1/2 teaspoon of honey instead of the added fruit and powders.
I use a medjool date as an extra sweetener in this and it was only when I visited a friend Emma in NYC that I really got into enjoying the chewiness of the date at the end of my drink. I used to find it a bit gross if it doesn’t blend, now I look at it as a little sweet treat!!

PURPLE PROTEIN SHAKE
-TBSP ALMOND BUTTER
-I SCOOP VANILLA PROTEIN POWDER
-1/2 CUP FROZEN BLUEBERRIES
-TSP POWDER GREENS (I would use 1 cup kale or spinach but I am low on both!)
-1 CUP MILK OF CHOICE (You may need to add another half cup)
-TBSP GREEK YOGHURT
- Peel and chop banana. Add to blender.
- Add scoop protein powder, greens powder + nut butter
- Remove stone from date and add flesh to blender
- Add all other ingredients
- Blend until smooth
