I met Kaisa through my blogging friend Alice Harold (who I have guest posting for us next month).
A few months after I had my second child Alice had a series about inspirational women and Kaisa was one of them. Kaisa’s blog was the first honest and open impression I had of people who just made fitness work for them, if that makes sense.
She had this ability to fit runs into her days and to perform home workouts around work and kids and general busyness which started to really change my views about living a healthy lifestyle. Seeing this inspiration and motivation was super, especially as I was at home with two kids under three everyday of the week. I felt suitably driven to become more upbeat.
I also struggled emotionally( a mixture of post natal depression and a delayed onset of grief from losing my Dad at a young age) after our second child was born so Kaisa’s “see how it goes” and “enjoy exercise” attitude really helped on low days.
Kaisa is the woman behind the sloganed vest and hoodies I have been seen sporting from time to time with “LOOK PRETTY ON REST DAYS” on the back.
I can’t wait to see how Kaisa and I manage a Skype workout together. I am going to attempt to record it for you so you can do it too at some stage.

Work, family, lifestyle:
After living and working in London for over a decade, I now live in a small town with my three kids (8,6&4) and boyfriend. My days are pretty full on, as with any mum. I start my day either with a 6am PT client or a Crossfit session, then get the kids ready for school and nursery, either teach some classes (spinning and boxing) at Virgin, have some more clients or train myself. Then it’s time for school run and usually either the kids’ hobbies or more work in the evening. We are an active family and I like having other kids over to play too as I like to have a full house. And my kids fight less when we have guests 🙂
Tell us a bit about your sporting background?
I grew up playing basketball and I used to absolutely love it. It is a great game! When I got to about 16, I started going to the local gym where my mum used to teach, and took part in some classes. About a year later they were looking for someone to start teaching aerobics (those were the days! 🙂 and the other instructors whose classes I had been doing for the past year suggested I go on a course and started teaching, so I did. When I moved to London I carried on on the side of my studies and have never stopped.
What do you enjoy most about what you do now?
I must say I genuinely love my job. The best part is, without a doubt, making a difference in people. I train a lot of people who have not done any exercise in years. Some are in their 40s and not trained since they did PE at school as they say they don’t enjoy sport. Seeing them get stronger, fitter and more confident and hearing their feedback about how much they enjoy our sessions together makes me really happy. One of my clients who is 21 lost 4 stone in 8 months with me and has totally changed her lifestyle.
How important is nutrition to you?
Very. I suppose I am pretty lucky really as I haven’t got a sweet tooth and enjoy clean food anyway, so eating well comes quite easy for me. (I love crisps and ice cream though, which is why I don’t buy them to keep in the house!) You can do all the exercise you want, but if you aren’t eating the right stuff, you won’t get to your full potential. It is all about balance though. I think the key is to eat a good, heathy, well balanced diet most of the time and then enjoy treats every now and again. I am pretty strict about my food during the week, but tend to have one cheat day a week. For example, me and my friend ate our own body weight in curry last Saturday!
What is your favourite activity to do outside sport?
Well, sex is great cardio! 😉
Where was the last place you holidayed?
Being from Finland, I usually always go back to Helsinki to see my family and friends when I take time off. It is lovely, but it isn’t exactly anything new… So this Easter gone, I actually went to marrakech for a week with one of my friends and we have a great time!
Do you have any advice for your younger self?
Look after your body better!
If you had to choose one cheat meal what would it be?
If you had asked me before last Saturday’s curry carnage, I would have said an Indian. But I am gonna go with green chicken thai curry. Or spaghetti carbonara. Don’t make me choose just one! I love my food! 🙂

Currently mostly at Unit22 Crossfit gym in Northampton. I joined there just over a month ago after been given the buzz at both Crossfit Hackney, which is owned by my old friends and also Geneva where I trained when I went to see my friend, and I am totally hooked.
